Fun Monday - Can you keep a secret?

Well, this week its my turn to host Fun Monday and here is the task that I set for us all.

"I want you to take a trip down memory lane, and keep right on going, right back to your childhood. And I want to hear "THAT STORY". You remember the one? Yes, you do! The one your parents, siblings, extended family or friends, would never let you forget, live down or get over!"

In my case, I am going to travel way, way back, to the olden days, as my kids would call it. You know, before the turn of the century and all. Way, way back to when I was just four years old. (Are you feeling sleepy yet?) Way, way back to when I did not have any wrinkles, any worries or "Oh my God" ANY CHILDREN of my own. And way, way back to when I looked like this.........

Don't you just love those shorts? I am sitting on our back fence in this picture. We lived in NZ for a year. I don't live quite that close to the beach these days. We have to drive to get there! Sigh....

Anyway back to my story. (Mind you, I think this picture is embarrassing enough without a story, don't you?) For those of you who don't, heres what happened.......

It was my dad's birthday and Mum decided we would go shopping to get him a nice present. We had a lovely day out and chose a nice new wallet for his present. I was sworn to secrecy, I felt very, very important. I would NOT tell him. No I wouldn't. I could keep a secret. My little four year old heart was bursting with pride.

So my dad, picks us up and immediately begins to hound me.....

"So what did you get me?"

"
Nuffin !"

"Oh come on! You can tell me!"

"
Nup! Im not tellin'" My lips were sealed, zipped and not tellin' for sure.

He continues on, pestering, begging, and basically driving me insane with the need not to spill the beans. Afterall, I can keep a secret you know. Then he gets that look on his face. You know the one. The one, when the Daddy is about to tickle you!

At this stage, I swear, I must have broken out in a sweat. Oh my God, he is going to tickle me! I can't stand it any more. I make a run for it, with him in close pursuit!

Mum: "Don't you tell him"

Me: "I won't, I won't"

Mum: "Leave her alone! Stop it!"

By now I am starting to panic, he's almost caught me. Theres nowhere to hide!

Me: "Don't worry mum, I won't tell him" I shrieked at the top of my lungs.."I won't tell him, its a WALLOP! Arghhhhh..."

WOOPS!

(And there you have it! I caved at the threat of a mere tickle. As you can imagine, they NEVER let me forget it. Whenever there is a secret to be had, for some reason they won't let me in on it!) But seriously I can keep a secret, you can trust me, really you can!

Have a Fun Monday everyone, and don't forget to go and visit all my friends and read their stories too! Next weeks Fun Monday will be hosted by BlueMomma who has invited us all down for a swim in her fishbowl! Hope to see you there!

Did describing it as a Wallop throw him of the scent at all???

Well, one would think so! But alas, he was onto me! My cover was totally blown.

What a great story! My little one was saying prayers to her grandma one night and said, "And please God don't let me tell grandma we got her slippers for Christmas". My mom, bless her heart, insists to this day that she cannot hear prayers, that only God can.

I like the pictures. Not embarassing at all. And, I would've caved at the tickle, too.

Great pictures, and oh, how I envy that beach proximity. It serves him right that his surprise was ruined!

Pictures AND story.
A wallop ?
I also want to hear stories about living that close to the beach.
Thanks for hosting this week. I really enjoyed the Trip Down Memory Lane.

It wasn't your fault. You poor tortured soul. I am sure you can keep a secret, without threat of a tickle, anyway. Cute photos, you still have the same hair. My daughters hair is similar.

That's very cute ! How difficult to keep a "secret" at this age, lol !
I participate for the first time to Fun Monday and for me it was very difficult to dig out a picture and also to tell a story ! (not because I was an angel !!!)

Thanks for your comment on my Egyptian souvenirs. I just published my entry for the Fun Monday !

Of course you can...just as long as you aren't about to be tickled!
Fun story and adorable photos!

Very cute story and sweet pictures!

Thanks everyone, for your nice comments.

Swampy: Yes "wallop" was the main reason they never let me forget it. My dad had a good old laugh again when I told him I would be posting this story.

Dawn: My hair contrary to belief is much curlier than in that picture and a bit darker. I have a tendency to straighten it these days (much to my mums disgust) and am even thinking of chopping it all off. What do you thinK?

A WALLOP! Hilarious!! Hey that bathing suit you're wearing would be highly sought after today - the ads would describe it as "retro" and everyone would want it!!

You were a cute kiddie!

You could have been a secret agent with that kind of resolve! Sheesh what a party pooper.

Melissa, Its okay I just ate. And I kind of figured from your letter to WT that you would eat a few batches first anyway?

I didn't play this week but I'm still visiting everyone :o) Great subject and a fantastic job on your first time hosting! Loved your story, amazing what a little threat of a tickle will do LOL

Daddies sure have their way of finding out what we don't want to tell them, don't they? I particularly love that it was a "wallop"!

Thanks for hosting. This was most enjoyable!

Well...at least you tried to keep a secret. Who knew he would use torture techniques...like tickling to get you to talk. Fathers.... :-)
