WHERE'S PEANUT?

OH THERE SHE IS.......

BOO!

Just like her cousin TC, she is a bit of a foodie and thinks if she surprises Mr K, she might just steal his dinner! And while it did not work this time.......she managed to score a little biscuit for herself......

In between posing for the camera of course!

What can we say? This kid is a poser! She is SO CUTE and she knows it! She always has a ready smile for anyone.......even strangers! (Not that we are biased or anything around here....but really.....she is rather cute! :-) ).

C'mon how could you resist this face? I know I can't!

HUGS AND SMOOCHIES ALL! XOXOXOXX

Ta-da.......a finally finished project...

So remember that cardigan I started knitting a while ago for Ashlee's Birthday which was (ahem) back in August? Well, finally I finished it last week...Yay! I meant to take pictures to show you but could not manage to catch her. But.... as luck would have it....looks like a little photo session went ahead without me....I found these on Facebook.......very cute......

Nice pearls for buttons! And no the collar is not supposed to be rolled in like that!

I was really pleased with the results considering I went out and bought the wool before buying a pattern. I used 8 ply wool with a 5 ply pattern and changed to smaller needs. I did have a little trouble when the front was coming out longer than the back in the raglan part, so had to adjust it to fit. There were a few un-knitting sessions before I was satisfied, hence the reason it took me so long to finish it. The sleeves also did not fit flush so I gathered them. This actually gave it a really nice look though. And as you can see the fit is perfect for her.

The pattern used was from the Patons book 1224 ( for Bluebell 5 ply) Classic Elegance,  Style 6 in the v-neck. Size Extra Small.

I used Moda Vera 100% Australian Wool, 8 ply in pink.

Overall, a very nice result! And as Ashlee loved it, I could not be more satisfied!

Ashlee's latest design......

What can I say? Very proud mama indeed! Hugs and smoochies all xoxoxox

Concentration....concentration...ready begin...

The other night at our house there seemed to be a whole lot of serious concentration going on.......Why the serious looks? They were concentrating very hard at learning something new! Gotta love computers hey?

These two were learning a new crochet technique

And here is Ashlee's finished result......
(Her very first crochet project going beyond the square! Not bad hey?)

Not to be left out, Little Miss Indica Rose was doing a bit of concentrating herself........

She made this lovely necklace for TC......

And these beautiful dangly earrings for her mama......

Here's hoping it does not get lost in all those dreads!

Keanu found it all a little too boring for young men so decided to take a nap instead......nothing cuter than a sleeping baby.....

You will have to wait and see what I have been making! Not quite finished as yet! I am off to spend some time in my lovely garden! Such a glorious day outside! Have a great one everybody! Hugs and smoochies xoxoxox

I am sitting here kind of wishing it would rain! It looks like its going to rain but I know its just waiting for me to get to the Athletics field where there is no cover and then its going to rain on me! I just know it! I really don't need to get wet right now. This cough is not letting up and considering I was out in the cold a lot last week, I don't think its going to do me much good. The boy however is ready to go and jumping up and down in anticipation.....Little Athletics...at least for now is a new novelty~ Hmmm maybe I should borrow TC's new jammies..........LOL........very cute and warm.....

Reminds me of when she was just 5 and she used to dress up in a yellow Telly tubbies outfit....my how the years have flown. Today she is sitting the first of her HSC exams! Yikes~

Well the wind has just picked up so I am going to check the weather situation again. Take care and have a great weekend! Hugs and smoochies xoxoxoxox

How to build a habitat for your "praying" pets....

Now this is how it is supposed to happen people! Natural learning at its best! Ninjaboy just happened to spy a little visitor on the roof in the kitchen and much to Zak's excitement it happened to be none other than a baby praying mantis!

Now Zak had been after buying one of these little bugs to keep as a pet but after the Axylotl adventure I was a bit unsure. They sell for $30 each in the pet store and I did not want to buy it just for him to not look after it.

So after much admiring, jumping up and down in anticipation, nagging his mama to stop cooking and help him out, I finally caved and told him okay!

However I did insist on a little investigation, google searching on habitats and what they eat...he was one step ahead of me and even told me where to look!  Then after much reading and excitement to get started, we finally set to work and built his new pet a little enclosure. We took some pictures to show you how its done!

Step one... find an old gift box (or you could use any box that has a lid) ..... in our case Zak raided mums craft room and although this box was occupied, he deemed his mission more important and ousted the occupants!

Step two... cut out a couple of windows on two sides of the box......then cover them with some netting, Zak opted to tape it on with masking tape on the outside of the box in case his little pet might get stuck on the tape if he put it on the inside.... (good thinking!)

Step three....Next collect some dried sticks and leaves, along with some fresh ones and pop them in on the floor so he has lots of room to hide......

Step four.... Pop your little friend inside........say hello.......

And then put the lid on to keep him safe!

Don't forget to feed him! He eats lovely food like crickets and grasshoppers etc (Ewwwwwwwww!)

He only needs a little water, so remember to spray the fresh leaves occasionally with water so he has something to drink. Keep in mind that eventually he will need a bigger box! :-)

Mid October Learning Report

Considering it has technically been "school holiday's" for the past couple of weeks down here, we have been taking things a little bit easy. Well kind of, if you call running around all over the place easy. Lets just say there was a main focus on sports and outdoor activities. Followed by fitting in whatever we could around mama's coughing fits!

PDHP:

Swimming:  We spent two hours everyday for four days straight at the local swimming pools trying to get our swimming strength back after a five year gap in swimming so that we could re-join the local Surf Life saving branch for Nippers. Then on day 5, being Saturday, both boys managed to pass their swimming test of 200m freestyle in under 5 minutes.

Nippers:  The boys started nippers on Sunday, generally they will compete in sprinting, run-swim-run, flags, marathon and boards. Zak really came to the party and had a go at everything, even swimming out around the cans in rough water. Adem on the other hand is taking it slowly, he did well in the running and flags but opted out of entering the cold water. (Can't say I really blame him, I was standing in the wind shivering and coughing the whole time Brrrrrrr!!!)

Board Training: Nippers board training started yesterday and Zak again went in for it gung ho and according to his dad did really well. (This time I opted to stay indoors) Adem went along but opted to have a jog along the beach to the point and back and then did a sprint for a shorter distance. He is not ready for that cold water just yet! Zak wants to go back and have a practice again today!

Little Athletics:  Zak joined Little Athletics and started last Friday night. He absolutely LOVED it. He was a little upset as he came second last in all the races,  but really it was his first time. We had a little chat about competing against ourselves rather than the crowd and practice makes progress etc. He can't wait to go back and improve his times! He enjoyed trying out long jumps and shot put for the first time too.

Trampolining: Both boys have been spending time each day out on the trampoline, jumping and learning new tricks.

Scooters:  Along with ripsticks the boys like riding their scooters out and about including going to the skate parks.

Nutrition:  Discussions about food, nutrition and how various things effect our bodies. Including some healthy cooking lessons.

Environment and the World (ongoing...theme work) (Geography, Science, English)

Meteorology (Introduction) : Watched weather reports and mapped out a copy for ourselves. Learned about air pressures and weather patterns for the day.

Australia's Land Use:  Using the World Atlas and other resources to find out what most of the land in Australia is used for. Locate various areas on map and create a colour key. Answer various question regarding industry, forests, agriculture and desserts. And why we live in the coastal areas of our country.

More Science:  Watched a few different show's on TV about kids science, the environment, the Human Brain, survival in the wild etc.  Particularly enjoyed backyard science. Monster garage, the New Inventors.  Z conducted his own experiment on how far cars would go according to height, weight, size and distance travelled.

English:

Zak:  We have started one of the language units from Lesson Pathways for year 5, Dear Mr Henshaw. He is currently half way through the book and is preferring that we read it together as it is not interesting enough in his eyes to read alone. Thus far he has completed a few of the activities including making lists about what bothers him, what he wishes for and identifying various charicteristics from characters in the book. There are quite a few activities to complete in a week. And as we have been a bit busy we are not quite into it as yet.

Working on his diary (Wimpy kid style ;-))

Adem: Understanding Past, Present and Future Tense,  + writing. Reading various chapter books of own choice.

Both: Grammar, writing, vocabulary etc, worked in with various subjects or like today Adem requested doing some of his vocabulary builder book.

Current reading: A- The Savage Stoneage (horrible histories) Z- Dear Mr Henshaw

Handwriting:

Zak has been working on basic handwriting again to try and get his writing a bit neater. Adem has a science cursive handwriting book which is doubling up as lessons on the human body. This week he learned more about the 5 senses. His handwriting is lovely in this book, would be nice if he could show this in his other work which tends to be sloppy.

Maths:

Zak has been working on grams and Kilograms and has been running around the house madly weighing things in. Guessing the weights and then popping them on the scales and recording results. Too funny when he guessed his own weight as 2 kg less. He then ripped off his shirt in the hopes it was the culprit! No such luck! He is also working on Litres and ML this week and on 3D objects around the house.

Adem is currently working on Ordering Integers and Using the Number Line.

Music:

Very slack in this dept. We have been playing rockband and listening to music but other than that? Nothing on the go just now.

Woodwork (For those who think we should be doing it! I give you photographic evidence....LOL..forgot I had these pics when I posted my thoughts on woodwork the other day! )

trying to fix up the skate ramp

If only it would work!

Maybe, with a little help from your friends?
Well as I mentioned before, he ended up adding to the brick pile and making it more stable rather than precisely flush to the ground! But it was not for lack of trying! :-)

And thats about as much as I can remember for now! Time to clean up, feed the kids and head down the beach for a little more of that "board training" he insists mama comes along and watches this time! Gah! There is no rest for the wicked is there?

Small things.....gone wild.....

Well we have had a bit of humidity, rain and (ahem neglect) in our garden the past week or so, between running around with the kids to various sports and coming down with a bit of a chest infection, I have not had any garden time what so ever. Today I finally had a minute to take a look and well, see what I found........

Basil

Fancy Lettuce

Budding Strawberry

Lettuce in front, some stray carrots in the middle and Zuchhinni up the back

Squash in front, catnip and tansy.

Corn with tomatoes popping up behind, basil and tansy

Passion flower

Passion fruit gone wild over chicken coop!

Elder flower (natures own medicine)

Mango flowers

A joyful find, offshoot from my lavender which the dogs attacked, stuck a branch in the ground and behold it grew! :-)

Rosemary in flower!

Geraniums!
Elder flower and passion fruit fighting for space!

The black berries and oregano meet half way!

Oh Dear, forgot to harvest this coriander and it turned into a tree!
Really mama! I am getting lost out here! Hello!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh! Today I am grateful that mother nature looks after things when I am not able too! Makes me feel more than blessed! Hope you all find yourselves in good health this week! Hugs and smoochies xoxoxoxxox

Lessons in life skills..

Well this week has been a week of learning about fitness, eating well for our bodies and in general, life living! Tonight Mr Zak decided he would supervise the cooking and play "Master Chef!" with his mama! Indeed we cooked some lovely herb cheese pastries and some spinach and feta ones too! Then we cooked some hot chillie with tomatoes (cayenne chillies sauteed with garlic and tomato mixed in) served with greek yoghurt and fresh crusty bread.  Its HOT! He also whipped up a quiche or rice slice of sorts. Fresh asparagus from the garden chopped up with onion, spinach, herbs and eggs, tomato slices on top with fresh parmesan cheese! Yummmmmm!

After he ate, he was thinking what he should do next when I suggested we go check out the laundry! So we went off and emptied the drier of its load of towels and I showed him how to remove the lint from the filter and explained why we had to do it! He was rather amazed that leaving the lint might cause a fire (I don't think I shall leave him in charge any time soon!)

Next we looked what was in the washing machine and saw some socks and flanalette PJ's  so decided as it was raining and it was night time we would put them in the drier too. So as the boy loads the drier up he is wondering "how much will I get paid for this?" Nothing..I tell him...his sisters and myself do this every day but usually, we hang the washing on the line dear! And no we don't get paid for the pleasure! " What? And you don't get paid?"  No..but sometimes...I find money in the washing! "You do?" Yes... I do! "So...what do you do with it?" I keep it! "Oh so if I do the washing I can keep the money I find?" Yep! You can! " COOL!"

So with dreams of money filling the poor boys head, he loads up the machine careful not to add anything "not" fluffy to the load and finds no money and only half a load....I send him off to his sisters bathroom where he comes back forlorn with alas "no money" but a pair of track pants and one sock (which he adds to the load) we find another couple of pairs of socks in my room but no money! Poor boy! He begins to ask "whether perhaps there might be just $2 somewhere! Where can I find it mum?"  He frowns a bit, measures out the washing powders, throws it in and turns the Knob to start, right before noticing there were several knobs on the machine (all pre-set) which he feels we need to adjust!

"But mum! We need to  set ALL the knobs!" NO NO we don't, they are already set to the settings we need them at! You just need to set the time! But look, here is the load of washing you pulled out of the dryer! It needs to be folded and put away! He takes one look and says......"NO your on your own.......I have better things to do......and it seems he did.....W.E.L.L.....Nice face Zak!

His majesties score on the left! He was rather proud! Did not want to burst his bubble and give him a challenge! hehe!
Now Zak's mama is off to fold that load of washing, have a cup of tea and off to bed. She is feeling a little under the weather! Big hugs all! xoxoxox

Oh and PS. His nibs just saw this as I was about to post and is worried you will all think he is "special" ..I told him to pull a face and he did! LOL! He is adorable! Is he not?

Look-a-me!

Hi everyone! Its me! Peanut! Do you like my new headband? Brings out my eyes don't you think?

This week my Aunty Karisma has been taking the boys down to the local pools everyday to practice their swimming before they start Nippers on the weekend. While they swim, she has been busy whipping up headbands to use up the rest of her ribbon stash! I scored this blue one....Aunty K says it will keep my curls out of my eyes so I can see where I am going.

I like my headband but I did not like the camera flashing in my eyes so I kept closing them! hehe!

Shhhh.......I'm sleeping.......

Now stop it Aunty K and give me back my plug! Geez!

The things a girl does just to keep her aunty amused!
Have a great day everyone! Hugs and smoochies xoxoxoxoxoxxo
